Janakpur Literature and International Theatre Festival being held in February

GODAR (Dhanusha), Jan 4: Janakpur Literature and International Theatre Festival 2080 is going to be held in Janakpurdham from February 1 to 5.


The festival to be held at Mahendra Narayan Nidhi Mithila Cultural Center in Janakpurdham is organized by the Maithili Development Fund for the promotion of Maithili language, literature, art, culture, economy and tourism. The five-day long festival will have twenty sessions on political, social, literary and economic topics, according to the Fund's President Jeevanath Chaudhary.

Likewise, drama by artists from Nepal and India will be presented in five languages including Maithili, Nepali, Hindi, Assamese and Bengali. Exhibition of Mithila paintings, books, plays, various delicacies of Mithila and cultural programs are other features of the event.


Scholars, comedians, social activists, artists and politicians from Nepal and India will attend the festival, which will also see deliberations on federalism, language policy, various genres of literature and the current state of society.


The festival is being organized by the Fund every two years since 2073 BS. It is financially supported by Madhes province government and Janakpurdham sub-metropolitan city.


Around one hundred thousand people from Nepal and India are expected to participate in the festival, say the organizers.
