Karki assailants remanded for seven days

KATHMANDU, Dec 24: The District Administration Office (DAO) Kathmandu on Friday has remanded the two persons arrested on the charge of assaulting suspended CIAA chief Lokman Singh Karki to seven days in police custody for investigations.

KATHMANDU, Dec 24: The District Administration Office (DAO) Kathmandu on Friday has remanded the two persons arrested on the charge of assaulting suspended CIAA chief Lokman Singh Karki to seven days in police custody for investigations.

   

The police booked them under the Public Offence Act. According to SP Pradyumna Karki, the acting chief of the Metropolitan Police Range Office, Kathmandu, the police have recorded their preliminary statements Friday.


During the preliminary statements to police, the two cadres have admitted having assaulted Karki and said they attacked him for his unlawful activities, police said.

    

The assailants have been identified as Prabal Shahi of Rukumkot VDC-8 of Rukum and currently living in Kirtipur, Kathmandu, and Chandra Bahadur Budha of Aathabari VDC-4, who is currently living in Gongabu in Kathmandu. The two were also identified to be the central committee members of the All Nepal National Independent Students' Union Revolutionary, the student wing of Netra Bikram Chand-led CPN Maoist.

They had manhandled Karki and tarred his face on the tight-security Supreme Court premises when Karki was making exit of the court Thursday.


Police said that the two will have to face jail term of up to one year and fine of up to Rs 10,000 if proven guilty.


Meanwhile, suspended CIAA chief Karki in a statement on Friday appealed to the authorities to release the two saying they are innocent and were just being used by others.
