Karki, Bashyal clinch golds

KATHMANDU, Dec 5: Nepal’s Saksham Karki and Sangita Bashyal added two more golds in Taekwondo played at Academy Hall in Lalitpur on Wednesday.

KATHMANDU, Dec 5: Nepal’s Saksham Karki and Sangita Bashyal added two more golds in Taekwondo played at Academy Hall in Lalitpur on Wednesday.


In women’s category for under 62 Kg, Bashyal defeated India’s Gaganjot Gill, 18-9.  Pakistan’s Zoya Shabbir and Sri Lanka’s Nuwanthi Lakmal were limited to bronze medal.


Similarly, Karki defeated Pakistan’s Waqar Ali 27-9 to secure 11th gold for Nepal in Taekwondo. Sri Lanka’s Bala Patiyage and India’s Chaitanya Vijay were limited to bronze in the same category. India eventually won three golds and Sri Lanka won a gold on the day.

In men’s category for under 74 Kg, India’s Jarnel Singh defeated Pakistan’s Jabran Khan, 41-26 to secure the gold medal. Nepal’s Nischal Shrestha and Sri Lanka’s Darshana Kumara were limited to bronze medal. 


In same category for under 63 Kg, Sri Lanka’s Chalinda Sampath won gold medal defeating India in the finals. Nepal’s Gyanendra Hamal and Pakistan’s Mahmud Khan were limited to bronze.


In women’s category for 73 Kg, India’s Rodali Baruwa defeated Nepal’s Nisha Rawal 32-9 in the final to secure gold medal. 


In same category for under 53 Kg, India’s Latika Bhandari defeated Pakistan’s Ayesha Afshar, 40-10, whereas Nepal’s Ashmita Khadka and Sri Lanka’s Dasuna Nimesha were limited to bronze.
