The COVID-19 infection is still a concern for Nepal as the country recorded 136 new cases of the virus on Friday, along with 68 recoveries. The Ministry of Health and Population released this information, revealing that out of the 1,424 swab samples tested, 34 PCR and 102 antigen tests came back positive for the virus. With 401 active cases of COVID-19 in the country as of Friday, 32 are in institutional isolation, 11 in ICUs, and three on ventilators. These figures indicate that the coronavirus infection is back in the country, and we must remain vigilant and take all necessary precautions to stay safe.

Although the overall number of COVID-19 cases in Nepal may seem small, it is important to remember that the virus can spread quickly, as seen in the Sudurpaschim Province and Chitwan district. The situation can easily spiral out of control if we become complacent and do not follow the recommended health protocols. The resurgence of cases in Chitwan district, a COVID-19 free zone for five months, highlights the need for immediate action to prevent the virus from spreading further. It is also important to note that the booster doses of the vaccines are being administered in various parts of the country.

The health ministry has urged the public to take caution and get a booster dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. However, while vaccines are essential in fighting the pandemic, they alone are not sufficient to protect us. We must continue to take precautions and follow the recommended health protocols. It is important to wear masks, practice social distancing, and wash your hands regularly to prevent the spread of the virus. Avoiding unnecessary travel and large gatherings, especially in areas with high infection rates, is also crucial.

Individuals should also take responsibility for their own health and follow the recommended health protocols, such as wearing masks, washing hands frequently, and maintaining social distance. Basically, it’s time to get back to the basics - avoiding large gatherings and unnecessary travel to reduce the risk of infection. Moreover, it is recommended that those who are eligible, including healthcare workers, the elderly, and people with underlying medical conditions, receive the booster shots.

We all need to remain vigilant and continue to follow health protocols to keep ourselves and our communities safe. As a newspaper, we urge everyone to take the pandemic seriously and do their part in preventing its spread. The government also needs to step up and ensure that adequate measures are in place to prevent the spread of the virus, including regular testing at border crossings, contact tracing, and providing necessary resources to health facilities.
