KATHMANDU, Nov 21: Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has extended the deadline for the appointment of principals after not receiving the application as per the demand.
A month ago, KMC had requested an open advertisement for principals with the aim of improving the quality of public education. The deadline expired on November 17. However, after the application was not received as per the demand, the metropolis has again extended the deadline for appointment of principals.

Instead of participating in the competition, principals working in schools have approached the Supreme Court against the process of appointing principals in the metropolis.
Nabin Manandhar, spokesperson for the KMC, said that the deadline was extended by one week after the application as per the demand was not received. "To enhance the quality of public schools in the city, the metropolis has devised procedures and standards for the appointment of principals," explained spokesperson Manandhar. "However, in many schools, principals are employed on a temporary basis and have not been made permanent for five years."
He further added, "Many working teachers have approached various courts. We have also allocated a week to engage in discussions with these teachers. Out of the 89 public schools in the metropolis, we have already appointed principals for five years in 13 schools. The metropolis aims to create new procedures for appointing principals in the remaining 71 schools and expedite the appointment process to introduce new teachers to the education system."
