MYAGDI, Nov 14: Residents of the entire district of Mustang can now travel across the Chinese border.

Earlier, only locals of Lo Manthang and Loghekar rural municipalities of Mustang had the permission to go to China via the Korala checkpoint. The check point, which was closed due to the coronavirus pandemic, was brought into operation from Monday after four years.

An understanding was reached between the officials and security personnel of the two countries on Monday to allow the residents of all five local units of the district for their movement to China via Korala check point, said Chairperson of Lo Manthang Rural Municipality, Tasi Narbu Gurung.

Gurung shared, "We after the inauguration of the Korala checkpoint proposed to the Chinese side to make arrangements for border-crossing permits to all citizens of Mustang. The Chinese side agreed for the same."

With this, locals of Baragung Mukti Chhetra, Gharpajhong and Thasang rural municipalities also have the permission to go to China across the border.

The District Administration Office, Mustang, earlier, had distributed entry passes to around 1,000 locals of Lo-Manthang and Lo-Ghekar Damodar Kund rural municipalities.

The process to distribute entry passes to the remaining three local units would be forwarded in coordination with the home ministry and local governments, said Chief District Officer Janak Raj Panta.
