KATHMANDU, August 1: The Mid-hill Highway has been blocked due to landslides caused by continuous rains.
Vehicles going to Kathmandu, Udayapur, Itahari, Dharan, Biratnagar, Kakarvitta and other places from Diktel have been stopped on the road following the landslides. General Secretary of Khotang Transport Pvt Ltd, Ram Kumar Hingmang said that when the vehicles stopped, the passengers were stranded in the middle of the road.
Rain-triggered landslides block Kanti Highway
To resume the obstructed road Halesi Tuwachung Municipality sent an excavator, said Kamal Giri, chairman of ward 7. During the rainy season, when other unpaved roads in the district were closed, only the Mid Hill Highway was in regular operation. Hurlung-Jalpa, Sapsu-Pandhare and other unpaved roads were already closed due to landslides caused by continuous rains.
All the rural roads connecting the municipality to Diktel Bazar, the main commercial center of the district, have been blocked due to the floods and landslides triggered by incessant rain. After all the unpaved rural roads of the district were blocked, passengers traveling to and from Diktel Bazar and Terai district and the capital Kathmandu were forced to walk for hours to reach their destinations.
