Lawmaker Yadav demands fair investigation into acid attack

BIRGUNJ, Oct 15: Lawmaker Pradip Kumar Yadav has suggested to the police to fairly investigate the acid attack on Muskan Khatun, a 15-year-old girl from Birgunj.


Yadav, a lawmaker from Parsa Constituency-1, visited the District Police Office (DPO) to inquire about the investigation, and insisted that the culprits should not get impunity. On Monday, a team led by Yadav visited the DPO to know about the investigation being carried out by the police.


It's been 37 days since Muskan Khatun, a resident of Chhapkaiya-2 was attacked by acid by two teenagers. The two culprits – Shamshad Miya and Majid Alam – are in police custody, while Muskan is receiving treatment at Kirtipur Hospital in Kathmandu.

Lawmaker Yadav has also sought information about the investigation from Somendra Singh Rathore, Superintendent of Police of Parsa. Lawmaker Yadav suggested to the police to investigate the case fairly and take action against the culprits as per the law. After learning that the culprits might enjoy impunity, lawmaker Yadav visited the DPO to know about the investigation being carried out by the police.


Meanwhile, the family members of the accused are trying hard to prove them underage so as to reduce the punishment. Police have been trying to ascertain the exact age of the accused. Meanwhile, as per the medical report by Medical Superintendent at Narayani Hospital, Madan Kumar Upadhyaya, Soni Jha, dentist, Rajdev Kushwaha, orthopedic surgeon, Bijay Raj Khanal, radiologist, the age of the accused is 19 years and 17 years, respectively.


However, the family members are claiming that the accused are 14 and 15 years old, respectively. “The health condition of Muskan is improving. Muskan, however, has lost her right ear,” lawmaker Yadav said, adding that the culprit must face action as per the law so incidents like these don't happen again. Yadav further added that the person selling acid should also face legal action.


According to SP Rathore, the person selling acid to the accused is yet to be identified. Rathore also informed that a case will be registered at the District Court against the accused on Tuesday. Likewise, Rathore said that police will fairly investigate the case.
