KATHMANDU, Aug 6: Lawmakers have demanded the government to provide compensation and relief to the victims of natural disasters including landslide and flood following the heavy rainfall that occurred from July 11 at different places of the country.


Speaking in a zero-hour of today's meeting of the House of Representatives, lawmakers-- Pramod Shah, Bal Krishna Khand, Dev Prasad Timilsina, Tejulal Chaudhary, Dhruba Kumar Shahi, Padam Narayan Chaudhary, Dularidevi Khatweni, Purna Kumari Subedi, Parbata DC Chaudhary, Debendra Poudel and Pramila Rai said that the government has failed to draw its attention even after many people have become homeless due to landslide and flood. Lawmaker Dila Sangraula demanded fair investigation about the corruption in Biratnagar jute mill while Dilendra Prasad Badu drew the government's attention over the delay in the appointment of office-bearers of Truth and Reconciliation Commission.

Similarly, Dipak Prasad Bhatta asked the government to open border checkpoints at Sudur Paschim state while Dev Prasad Gurung drew the government's attention to provide compensation and relief to landslide and flood victims. Likewise, Naramaya Dhakal demanded the appointment of office-bearers at the National Women Commission as soon as possible and Narayan Prasad Khatiwada demanded a fair investigation into the death of journalist Shalikgram Pudasaini.


Lawmaker Padam Giri drew the government's attention over delay in construction of the Pokhara-Baglung road section while Parbata Kumari Bisankhe asked the government to take action against the guilty, saying Laxmi Sunar of Dailekh was thrashed for touching drinking water.
