Lawmakers demand immediate release of grant to quake survivors

KATHMANDU, Sept 11: Lawmakers have complained that the April 25, 2015 earthquake survivors are yet to get reliefs and housing grant almost 16 months into the disaster.

KATHMANDU, Sept 11: Lawmakers have complained that the April 25, 2015 earthquake survivors are yet to get reliefs and housing grant almost 16 months into the disaster. 


Putting their view at today's Legislature-Parliament meeting during zero hour, they also complained that some quake survivors have been left out on the list of beneficiaries and that they should be accommodated.


They also demanded that the quake survivors be provided with immediate reliefs and problems of landless squatters resolved.

Saying approximately 40 per cent of the quake victims from the quake-ravaged districts like Dhading, Nuwakot, Sindhuli and Sindhupalchok have been excluded, they demanded their accommodation and that they should be provided the first tranche of housing grant announced by the government for quake victims at the earliest.


Expressing concern over hassles facing commuters travelling along Muglin-Narayangadh road section, they likewise demanded an end to the problem at the earliest especially taking into mind approaching festivals like Dashain, Tihar and Chhath.


Lawmakers said that the proposal of the Local Bodies Restructuring Commission was not practical and has instead increased differences at the local level.


Lawmakers—Kriparam Rana, Krishna Prasad Poudel, Ganesh Pahadi, Gita Wagle, Guru Prasad Burlakoti, Chandrakanta Bhandari, Chudamani BK Jungali, Janardan Dhakal, among others expressed their views. RSS
