KATHMANDU, Feb 9: Expressing dissatisfaction over the judges’ appointment at seven high courts, as well as dissatisfaction over the agreement between bar and bench regarding the issue, a group of lawyers started protest program in Kathmandu on Thursday.
A group of lawyers from Madhesi community and Province No 2 staged a sit-in protest in the premises of Nepal Bar Association central office on Thursday. According to Shyam Mishra, the former chair of Appellate Court Janakpur Bar Association, around three hundred lawyers from Province 2 are attending the protest program.

Mishra said that the appointment of judges in the high court remained contradictory to the principle of proportionate inclusion. He also said that they are forced to stage a protest against their own umbrella organization since the NBA, which had also staged protest programs regarding the appointment, ended it without addressing the agenda of inclusion properly.
Earlier, the NBA and government attorneys had launched separate protest programs against the appointment of judges at high courts. Both the protest programs were ended after reaching general agreements.
Meanwhile, the NBA has formed a talk-team under the leadership of senior advocate Kamal Narayan Das to settle the issue. “We have formed the talk-team to address the demands related to NBA,” said Khamma Bahadur Khati, the general secretary of the NBA.
