KATHMANDU, April 14: Laxman Kishor Chaudhary, representing the Nagarik Unmukti Party (NUP), has formally declared his candidacy for the position of Chief Minister (CM) of Sudurpaschim Province on Sunday.
Chaudhary’s bid for the CM post has garnered support from a coalition comprising 18 provincial lawmakers from the Nepali Congress (NC), six from NUP, and four from the Unified Socialist.

The Sudurpaschim Province Assembly consists of 53 members. However, the NUP has decided to take action against its lawmaker Indira Giri. Therefore, to secure the CM position, a minimum of 26 votes are required.
At present, the coalition boasts 31 members, comprising 11 from the Maoist Center, 10 from CPN-UML, six from NUP, and four from the Unified Socialist Party.
Additionally, the assembly includes 18 members from NC, along with representatives from the Rastriya Prajatantra Party and an independent member.
