For hundreds of years, we have been scarred by bullets and hurt by the death of our loved ones. The impact caused by jealousy, hatred and greed is unbearable.
Leaders of the world have made various efforts to maintain peace through talks and treaties, but the sustainable peace that people are looking for is still missing. Talks and treaties alone cannot ensure peace; it has to come from within the hearts and the minds of the people.
Peace isn’t simply the absence of war and conflict, or achievement of freedom. Peace isn’t the ultimate goal of an individual, but it’s a means to attain the goal. Peace should exist in an individual’s heart.
Increasing corruption in the government, frequent strikes, protests, discrimination, racism, extreme poverty and ignorance, if continue to exist, will doubtlessly convert our country into a battlefield.
Sometimes we can’t help but assume that peace is just not viable and that the differences can never be solved, which is an absolutely false idea. We must realize that it’s men that have created hurdles to peace.
We can achieve true peace only if we start learning from our mistakes, settling disputes through mutual understanding. Unless we stop judging people by the color of their skin, caste and gender, true peace can’t be achieved.
Peace is only possible when children all over the world spend their childhood in schools not in the battlefields. We have already seen terrible results of wars, armed revolutions and international and national conflicts, and now it’s our responsibility to prevent such conflicts for the welfare of humanity.
Equity, empathy and empowerment are must to instill peace in hearts and minds of human beings. Instead of fighting over petty issues, we should make a global commitment towards peace.
