Lieutenant General Sigdel is now acting chief of Nepali Army

KATHMANDU, July 30: Lieutenant General Ashok Sigdel has been given the responsibility of acting chief of Nepali Army.

KATHMANDU, July 30: Lieutenant General Ashok Sigdel has been given the responsibility of acting chief of Nepali Army. 


Source within the Ministry of Defense said that a Cabinet meeting held on Monday decided to appoint Sigdel as the acting Chief of Army Staff (CoAS) effective from August 8.

The three-year term of the incumbent CoAS Prabhu Ram Sharma is ending on September 9. As per the NA’s long-standing tradition, Sharma is taking a leave a month prior to his compulsory retirement from the service.


According to the provision in Rule 98 of the Army Service Regulations, 2069, it is customary for the CoAS to go on leave one month before the end of his tenure and to relinquish command to the acting CoAS.
