MAHOTTARI, August 3: Locals of Gaushala in the district have come together to build a child-friendly school building.

For the project, they have launched a campaign named 'Muthidan' wherein fund is collected from local people. Now, the building for Janata Secondary School at Bardibas is under-construction.

Budget released for development projects in the district often gets frozen over political bickering and disputes among local political leaders. As a result, infrastructures like road, school and hospital buildings that need urgent repair or reconstruction are left neglected while those already under construction are left midway.

Started with Rs 1 million from the school's fund, the project cost estimates Rs 4.8 million. Local people, teachers and the school management committee among others are lending a helping hand while the Dhurmus-Suntali foundation run by comedian Sitaram Kattel and Kunjana Ghimire has provided technical assistances.

So far, goods and cash tantamount to approximately Rs 500,000 has been collected under this campaign, said the school administration. Around 90 percent of the construction has been completed and the project will be over in one month, it added.

"Local people, teachers and parents have been encouraged and are promptly providing assistances," said the school management committee Chairman Dev Narayan Mahato.

Garden on the either side of a 500 meters concrete road leading to the school will also be built with a well-equipped children play park and a foundation inside.

Likewise, a stage for holding cultural programme, information centre, e-library and rooms for computer class will also be built while drinking water taps will be set up.

More than 90 percent of students of the school are from marginalised and backward community. RSS
