DHARAN, Jan 19: A man was killed by his friend and a woman got injured in a rural area of Dharan.
On Thursday morning at 8 o'clock, Kumar Budhathoki, 49, was killed by his friend, Harak Bahadur Rai, 35 aka Bikas. According to the Area Police Office in Dharan, Kumar struck Bikas in the stomach and back with a small khukuri when Bikas came to visit him at his home. After killing Kumar, Bikas also reportedly chased a neighbor woman named Manju Khadka Rai and attacked her with the same weapon. Khadka sustained injuries and is currently receiving treatment at the BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences in Dharan.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Buddha Shrestha, the house of the deceased, Budhathoki, and the accused killer, Bikas, are located 100 meters away from each other. Shrestha stated that the investigation revealed that both individuals were drug users and that this may have been the cause of the murder. He said, "It is clear that both were drug users and that could be the reason for this incident, we are investigating."
According to Chairman of Ward No. 5, Man Prasad Limbu, only Bikas and his father live in the house where the murder occurred. When Bikas' father woke up in the morning and did not find Bikas in his bed, he went to the deceased Budhathoki's house to search for him, but he was not found there either. While returning, he found his son Bikas sitting in a field. He brought Bikas back home, made tea and while they were drinking, Budhathoki arrived.
Budhathoki asked his friend Bikas to prepare holy rice grains and incense sticks saying that he would take him to meet a shaman. Ward Chairman Limbu said that as only rice grains were found in the house, Bikas killed his friend Budhathoki with a sharp weapon, when he was about to go to buy incense sticks.
