KATHMANDU, April 25: Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of National Reconstruction Authority (NRA) Govindra Raj Pokharel has said that the reconstruction works have been delayed due to the lack of human resources in various parts of the earthquake-affected districts.
Talking to journalists on the eve of the second anniversary of the 2015 earthquakes which claimed over 9,000 people, CEO Pokharel said that around 40 percent houses destroyed in the earthquakes are currently under construction.
NRA to hire staffs on contract to resolve manpower crunch
“I have visited several villages which were badly-hit by the earthquakes. The people there are not re-building their damaged houses although they have already received the government assistance,” he said. “I have learnt that they could not construct their homes just due to lack of human resources.”
He further said that manpower crunch is the major cause behind the slow pace of reconstruction. The government has identified around 626,695 victims who lost their homes during the quake.
“Youth exodus to foreign countries is the major reason behind the labor shortage. So, we need to first stop them from going abroad. We could deploy them in villages at least for around four months and this could expedite the reconstruction work,” he said.
