MPRF-D lawmaker warns of revolt
KATHMANDU, Oct 5: CPN (Maoist Center) lawmaker Aman Lal Modi has criticized the government for being reluctant to listen to the demands raised by Dr Govinda KC.
Speaking in the House meeting on Tuesday, lawmaker Modi dragged the attention of the parliament towards the hunger strike staged by Dr KC demanding reform in the medical sector.
“The doctor is staging fast-unto-death for the nineth time as the government has been forging agreements with him in installments and not implementing them,” said Modi.
He also questioned lawmakers' honesty for remaining silent even as Dr KC fights for justice and professional integrity. Stating that most of the peaceful protest in the country is being ignored, Modi demanded House ruling to address the demands of Dr KC.
“We fuss about human rights and democracy in Parliament. How can we celebrate Dashain festival leaving the justice fighter in hunger strike?” questioned Modi.
Meanwhile, Madhesi Peoples Right Forum Democratic lawmaker Yogendra Chaudhary warned of another revolt in the country if the demands of Tharu and Madhesi people's are not addressed.
“We have waited for the two months after the formation of new government and the government is postponing its own deadline for the constitution amendment,” said Chaudhary, refering the three-point agreement with the government.
Demanding that the case of Tikapur incident--where eight policemen and a two-year-old child were killed by Tharu protesters last year--should be settled through dialogue, Chaudhary warned the government not to provoke Tharu community. “If the Tharu and Madhesi are undermined then the country will see another revolt and the new constitution will not be implemented,” said Chaudhary.
