UPDATE: Massive storm kills two, injures dozens in Kailali, Kanchanpur

KATHMANDU, June 6: Two people have died while more than 37 others were injured when a massive storm hit Kailali and Kanchanpur districts on Thursday evening, officials said.

KATHMANDU, June 6: Two people have died while more than 37 others were injured when a massive storm hit Kailali and Kanchanpur districts on Thursday evening, officials said.


The deceased has been identified as Bir Bahadur Chaudhary of Godavari Municipality-4 and Lahanu Dangaura of Tikapur Municipality-2. Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs Prem Kumar Rai told Republica Online in Kathmandu that one person killed while 37 others sustained injuries due to the massive storm.


Rai said that the death toll may increase as the rescue operation is underway in Kailali and Kanchanpur districts.

 "The local administration has already been involved in rescue operations," he said adding that several houses and physical infrastructures were damaged due the storm.


"Exact details of the damage caused by the storm have yet to be determined," Rai said.


The injured have been undergoing treatment in local hospitals, according to Chief District Officer of Kailali Yagya Raj Bohara.
