KATHMANDU, Mar 29: The government has decided to present National Medical Education Ordinance in the Parliament tomorrow. Minister for Education Giriraj Mani Pokharel stated that the government is all set to present the ordinance in the Parliament by Thursday.
Former parliament had planned to endorse the ordinance as an act, but it was not able to do so due to disagreement between the political parties.
Dr KC asks lawmakers to bring pro-people, pro-students law
The ordinance was drafted on September 22, 2017, as per the demands made by Dr Govinda KC, a senior orthopedic surgeon at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital. After the frequent hunger strikes staged by Dr KC, the ordinance had been prepared as per the recommendations made by the Mathema-led panel.
Dr KC has called for a 10-year moratorium on the establishment of new medical colleges in the Kathmandu Valley.
He has also demanded that all medical schools comply with the fee structure set by the government.
As per the Constitution of Nepal 2072, the ordinance should be endorsed by both the houses of the Parliament.
