MFC to host inaugural Chichi Papa Christmas Cup 2023 in Portugal

KATHMANDU, Dec 24: Manamaiju Football Club (MFC) is gearing up to organize the 1st Chichi Papa Christmas Cup 2023 in collaboration with Mechi-Mahakali Football Club, to be held in Lisbon, Portugal.


12 teams will vie for supremacy in this exciting tournament, with the participating teams divided into four groups, each comprising three teams. During the group stage, each team will play two matches, and the top two teams from each group will advance to the quarterfinals.

Matches in the group stage and quarterfinals will be of 15 minutes each, while the semi-final and final matches will be extended to 20-22 minutes each. The tournament's proceedings will be broadcast on goalnepal.com, and the event is scheduled to take place at Victoria Clube de Lisbon on December 26. This one-day tournament will feature 7-a-side football.


Chichi Papa Restaurant serves as the primary sponsor of the event, with Grill n Chill Restaurant as the co-sponsor. Additionally, Everest Junction Restaurant and Bikram BK have stepped in as sponsors for three key categories: Best Player, High Scorer, and Best Goalkeeper. Approximately 1,000 Nepali spectators are expected to attend the tournament.


In a new tradition, MFC has decided to host the Christmas Cup annually in December, with plans to introduce an 11-vs-11 tournament from the next year—an unprecedented move in the history of the Nepali community in Portugal (subject to approval).
