SINDHUPALCHOWK, Jan 29: Minister of Drinking Water Supply Umakanta Chaudhary has instructed the contractor company and the project staff to complete the work of distributing Melamchi water to the people of Kathmandu Valley by mid-March. He gave the instruction while inspecting the rehabilitation work of the Melamchi Drinking Water Project damaged by the floods last July.
Minister Chaudhary, who arrived in Melamchi on Friday to inspect the project site, instructed the employees of Chinese contractor SinoHydro to complete the works of Melamchi Drinking Water Project and other physical infrastructure of the project within the stipulated date as per the contract agreement.

Stating that he is committed to fulfill the responsibility of providing clean and quality drinking water to the Nepali people as per the Article 35 (4) of the Constitution of Nepal Minister Chaudhary said that he is determined to provide Melamchi drinking water to people of Kathmandu by mid-April. He said that he would take on-site observation and evaluate the work progress on a weekly basis until the project is fully operational.
Similarly, dozers and excavators have started constructing the access road by the contractor company under the direct direction of Ram Chaudhary from Friday as the road from Melamchi Bazar to Amwathan, where the project is located, was damaged due to floods.
Minister Chaudhary was accompanied by Secretary at the Ministry of Water Supply Pramila Devi Shakya Bajracharya, Director General of the Department of Drinking Water and Sewerage, Executive Director of Melamchi Drinking Water Development Committee and Chairman of Helambu Village Municipality Nima Galgen Sherpa.
