Minister Kunwar promises justice to migrant workers

KATHMANDU, July 4: Minister for Labour, Employment and Social Security Sher Bahadur Kunwar pledged to ensure that the national and foreign laborers would get their dues for their works.

KATHMANDU, July 4: Minister for Labour, Employment and Social Security Sher Bahadur Kunwar pledged to ensure that the national and foreign laborers would get their dues for their works. 


During a briefing held at the Department of Labour and Occupational Safety under the Ministry, Minister Kunwar argued that the foreign exchange reserve would be increased by the remittances sent by Nepalis youths working abroad. He pledged to make sure that such youths are duly acknowledged, Minister Kunwar reiterated.

Trade unions and sister organizations of political parties should be active for the welfare of laborers, the Minister said, "I am in favor of justice for laborers. Let's coordinate efforts to make the laborers feel justice in a peaceful manner rather than launching strikes, shut-down and padlocking."


He also spoke of the need to consider amending some provisions in the laws relating to laborers to create an enabling environment for them.


Minister Kunwar also instructed the agencies concerned to focus on the issues facing the Nepali laborers in India as well. 


On the occasion, the departmental chiefs briefed the newly-appointed Minister Kunwar on the undertakings under the social security schemes and their future action-plan and as well as works carried out in the sector of labor and occupational security.
