KATHMANDU, June 24: The monsoon system has spread throughout all regions of the country on Monday.
According to the bulletin issued by the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM), this year’s monsoon arrived in Nepal three days earlier on June 10 than the average date. The monsoon system usually enters Nepal on June 13.
Monsoon spreads across Nepal
Monsoon was active only in the eastern parts of the country for more than a week. The monsoon wind has reached all regions by Monday. According to the DHM, it took 15 days for the monsoon to spread all over Nepal this year.
Although it has been two weeks since the monsoon arrived, there has not been significant rainfall except in a few places. The DHM said that heavy rain may occur in some places of Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces on Monday night. The DHM said that there is a possibility of light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning at some places in Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces and at few places in Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces.
The monsoon enters Nepal via eastern parts of the country and spreads towards western parts. When the monsoon wind pushes the westerly winds, it becomes effective and rainfall occurs.
The DHM said that during this year’s monsoon, there is possibility of incessant rainfall compared to previous year. There is a higher possibility of incessant rainfall, especially in July and August.
