KATHMANDU, Aug 3: The Tanahun District Court has handed down a three-year prison sentence and imposed a fine of Rs 30,000 to Sushma BK, a 29-year-old resident of Pokhara Metropolitan City-24 Kaskikot.
The court's decision was announced by bench officer Krishna Gautam, on behalf of district judge Harish Chandra Dhungana, during a session held on Wednesday.
The distressing incident occurred on February 1, 2021, at the New Liglig Palace and Lodge in Abu Khaireni Rural Municipality-2 Khanikhola, Tanahun. Sushma BK poisoned her own daughter and herself. The hotel owner promptly rushed them to a medical college in Bharatpur, Chitwan, for immediate medical attention.

Tragically, Sushma's daughter, Kusum BK, succumbed to the poisoning and passed away on the same day.
However, Sushma herself was successfully treated and survived the ordeal. Following the incident, Manoj BK, Sushma's husband, filed a complaint against her on February 7, 2021.
At the time of the tragedy, Manoj was working abroad in Malaysia for employment. Sushma was later apprehended by the police on August 14, 2021.
Subsequently, the District Public Prosecutor's Office registered a murder case against her in the District Court on September 1, 2021. Since September 3, 2021, Sushma has been held in custody at Tanahun District Jail.
