Mountainous district Manang declared ODF zone

MANANG, July 3: Mountainous district Manang has gained the status of an Open Defecation Free (ODF) zone as 1,265 out of the 1,275 houses in the district successfully constructed toilets.

MANANG, July 3: Mountainous district Manang has gained the status of an Open Defecation Free (ODF) zone as 1,265 out of the 1,275 houses in the district successfully constructed toilets.

A program was organized in district headquarters Chame on Saturday, where the district was officially declared an ODF zone. According to Madhu Timalsina, chief engineer at the Drinking Water and Sanitation Sub Division Office, a single toilet for each and a common toilet for 10 houses have been built. He further informed that around 99.62 % houses in the district have toilets. With this, Manang has secured the 39th rank among the ODF zones in the country.


Earlier, Manang had 13 VDCs which have now been converted to four rural municipalities. In the program, chairpersons of the four rural municipalities, Chief District Officer Sunil Khanal, political leaders of different parties and locals assured of making safe use of toilets and contributing to the cleanliness and sanitation works of the district.
