KATHMANDU, May 15: A key leader of the main opposition Nepali Congress (NC), Gagan Thap has urged Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli to concentrate all his efforts on the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.

Posting a video message on a social media platform on Saturday, leader Thapa, who had also served as the health minister, asked PM Oli to stop talking and accept the reality. “We lost many lives. Many of them could have been saved. We still can save many others if we make every possible effort and use state mechanisms in this fight,” he said.

In his two-minute long video message, Thapa urged Oli to forget disputes and differences within his party and concentrate on treating people who are in a dire need of hospital beds, life saving oxygen and timely treatment.  “You have been reappointed as the Prime Minister, and you have an opportunity to save the people’s lives. So, I request you to mobilize all your might to combat this crisis.”

On the occasion, he also assured the prime minister of every effort from him and his party. “Regardless of our differences based on our ideology, principles and working styles, I’m ready to stand by your side to defeat the coronavirus,” he said.

“Give hope to hundreds of patients out there who are pleading for their lives,” said Thapa addressing Oli.
