KATHMANDU, Dec 31: Resham Chaudhary, who is currently serving jail term in Dilli Bazaar Prison after the court convicted him in connection with the killing of police personnel on duty in Kailali a few years ago, has announced to form a new political party from the jail. His wife Ranjita Shrestha confirmed that Chaudhary is preparing to register the party on January 3 and he has already informed about this to the jail administration on Friday.

Chaudhary has decided to name the party as ‘Citizens' Liberation Party’. Earlier, he had planned to name the party as Nagarik Samajbadi Party. After Chaudhary's cadres went to the Election Commission (EC) to hold consultation, Chaudhary decided not to use the proposed name i.e. ‘Nagarik Samajbadi Party’.

Damodar Pandit, who is close to Chaudhary, said that they have decided to name the party as ‘Nagarik Unmukti Party’ as someone else has already taken the name- ‘Nagarik Samajbadi Party’. Pandit will hold the next important post after the party's chairman. Pandit was earlier associated with the CPN (Maoist Center).

According to Chaudhary's wife Ranjita, the new party will be chaired by Chaudhary himself. But if the Election Commission does not accept Chaudhary as party chairman as he is currently serving a term in jail, his wife will hold the position. "He (Chaudhary) will be the party chairman. If the Election Commission does not agree, I will be the chairperson,” said Ranjita.
