KATHMANDU, Feb 7: The Nagarik Unmukti Party will not give a vote of confidence to the Far West government. The party’s chairperson Ranjita Shrestha Chaudhary informed Republica that she had decided not to give a vote of confidence to the government led by Chief Minister Rajendra Singh Rawal. Chaudhary said that they will not vote for anyone until their demand to release prisoners of conscience is met.
Earlier on Monday, it was said that the Nagarik Unmukti Party would give a vote of confidence to the government. A meeting of the members of the party's provincial assembly is currently underway in Kathmandu. There is a program of taking the vote of confidence in the Far West Provincial Assembly tomorrow. Rawal was appointed as the Chief Minister of the province on January 11. There is a constitutional provision that Chief Minister Rawal should take a vote of confidence within 30 days. Chief Minister Rawal was preparing to take a vote of confidence tomorrow after the Nagarik Unmukti Party was ready to give a vote of confidence.

Nepali Congress, the largest party in the 53-member Far West provincial assembly, the Unified Socialist and one independent member are in the opposition. There are 19 members of the Congress and four members of the Unified Socialist party.
Chief Minister Rawal was appointed as the Chief Minister with the support of 29 members including 10 of the CPN-UML, 11 of the Maoist Center, seven of the Nagarik Unmukti Party and one of the RPP.
