KATHMANDU, Oct 19: Nepali badminton player Nangsal Devi Tamang has advanced to the semifinals of the women's singles event in the ongoing Yonex Sunrise Pakistan International Badminton Series in Islamabad on Wednesday.
Nangsal defeated Pakistani opponent in straight sets of 21-16, 21-14 to book her place in the last four, according to Nepal Badminton Association's President Ramji Bahadur Shrestha.
Nangsal had defeated another Pakistani player in her last match as well.
Meanwhile, Nagsal along with her brother Ratna Jit Tamang progressed to the semifinal in the mix doubles section of the same tournament. They defeated a pair of Pakistani players 21-16, 21-14 to confirm their spot in the last four.
In the meantime, other Nepali players faced defeats in different levels of the tournament, according to NBA President Shrestha. Ratna Jit, Bishnu Katwal and Sajan Krishna Tamrakar were defeated in the second round while the pair of Nangsal and Amita Giri lost in the pre-quarterfinals of the women's doubles section. Similarly, Amita crashed out from the pre-quarterfinals in the women's singles event, informed Shrestha. The tournament will conclude on Friday.
