KATHMANDU, Nov 29: The National Land Commission, Kathmandu has accused the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) of demolishing the settlement of landless squatters in the Thapathali area using dozers without making an alternative arrangement.

According to the commission, it has been found that the metropolis carried out its demolition plan unilaterally. Chairman of the National Land Commission Shyam Kumar Prajapati said on Tuesday that he had never imagined that the KMC would move ahead with its plan without making alternative arrangements for the landless squatters.

He further said that the KMC cannot demolish the landless squatters’ settlement before the commission completes data collection and identification of genuine landless squatters.

Chairman Prajapati stated that the locals in the area are terrified after the metropolis entered the settlement without proper study. He added that discussion is the only way to resolve the problem amicably.
