KATHMANDU, Oct 11: A Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting of the Nepali Congress (NC) scheduled for Wednesday has been put off indefinitely due to factional dispute.

On Sunday, the party had decided to hold the CWC meeting on Thursday after four senior leaders from rival faction wrote a note of dissent over the establishment faction's decision to 'unilaterally' endorse the statute of the party's students wing. The date for the new meeting has not been fixed.

NC senior leaders Ram Chandra Paudel, Krishna Prasad Sitaula, Prakash Man Singh and Arjun Narsingh KC had written a note of dissent as the establishment faction unilaterally took decision on the statute of Nepal Students' Union on Sunday evening.

Sources said the meeting was put off amid threat by the rival faction to boycott it.

Earlier, rival faction leaders had held discussions at Paudel's residence at Bohoratar on whether to boycott the upcoming CWC meeting. There was however no unanimity on the boycott proposal, sources said.

NC spokesman Bishwa Prakash Sharma, however, denied that the meeting was deferred due to factional dispute. He said that the meeting was deferred as senior leaders are currently outside the Kathmandu Valley on party business.

Asked when the next meeting will take place, Sharma said it is less likely that there will be any meeting before the festive season. “Many senior leaders are currently outside Kathmandu Valley. The meeting may not take place before before Tihar and Chhath festival,” he said.
