NC fields highest number of candidates in federal and province elections

KATHMANDU, Nov 24: The Nepali Congress has fielded the highest number of candidates in the House of Representatives and Provincial Assembly elections, among the major political parties. The twin elections are being held in two phases on November 26 and December 7.

KATHMANDU, Nov 24: The Nepali Congress has fielded the highest number of candidates in the House of Representatives and Provincial Assembly elections, among the major political parties. The twin elections are being held in two phases on November 26 and December 7.


According to the Election Commission's data, the NC candidates outnumber the candidates of other parties in both the first-past-the-post (FPTP) and proportional representation (PR) categories of the elections.


Out of the 165 electoral constituencies in the FPTP category, the Nepali Congress has given candidacies in 153 constituencies. Similarly, the party has fielded its candidates in 320 out of the 330 constituencies towards the FPTP category in the Provincial Assembly elections in all seven provinces.

Coordinator of the NC election mobilization committee Bal Krishna Khand said the party has supported the candidates of the other partners of the democratic alliance – the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), RPP (Democratic), the Federal Socialist Forum Nepal and the Naya Shakti Party Nepal, in 12 House of Representatives electoral constituencies and 10 Provincial Assembly electoral constituencies.


Among the major parties, the CPN (UML) has fielded candidacies in 103 out of the 165 House of Representatives election constituencies, the CPN (Maoist Centre) in 60 constituencies, the Federal Socialist Forum in 107 constituencies, the Rastriya Janata Party Nepal in 65 constituencies, the Naya Shakti Praty Nepal in 123 constituencies, the CPN (ML) in 59 constituencies, the RPP in six constituencies and the RPP (Democratic) in five constituencies.


Likewise, in the total 330 electoral constituencies for the Provincial Assembly elections, the CPN (UML) has fielded candidates in 200 constituencies, the Maoist in 128 constituencies, Federal Socialist Forum Nepal in 181 constituencies, Naya Shakti Party Nepal in 239 constituencies, the RPP in 116 constituencies, the RPP (Democratic) in 43 constituencies and the CPN (ML) in 69 constituencies.


The CPN (UML) and the Maoist Centre have shared all the electoral constituencies in the FPTP category under the House of Representatives and State Assemblies elections in the 60:40 ratios as part of their electoral alliance in the name of leftist alliance. None of the political parties have fielded cent per cent candidacies towards the FPTP category.


In like manner, only the Nepali Congress has given cent per cent candidacy in the total 110 seats towards the PR category under the House of Representatives elections. The Election Commission had on November 19 published the final list of candidates included in the closed list of the PR which the political parties submitted to it.


No party except the Nepali Congress has submitted 110 names in the closed list under the PR category.


Among the major parties, the number of candidates of the CPN (UML) in the closed list under the PR category is 109. Similarly, the Maoist Centre, the Samajbadi Janata Party and Janajagaran Party have submitted a joint closed list of 109 PR candidates, the Federal Socialist Forum Nepal has also submitted a list of 109 PR candidates, the RPP 109, RPP (Democratic) 109, Naya Shakti Party Nepal 106, the CPN (ML) ns Jana Samajbadi Party Nepal jointly submitted the close list of 105 PR candidates and the Rastriya Janata Party Nepal a list of 93 PR candidates.
