KATHMANDU, April 29: The ruling party Nepali Congress(NC) on Saturday held a meeting with the main opposition party CPN-UML with a view to convincing the latter to extend support to the 11-point constitution amendment bill recently tabled in parliament by the government at the Balkot-based UML chairman's residence.

At the meeting, UML chairman Oli reiterated his party's stance on constitution amendment bill despite NC's effort to persuade him to accept it.

"UML chairman Oli said his party would foil the process of endorsing the 11-point amendment bill", NC vice-president Paudel told Republica Online.

According to Paudel, they urged Oli to soften his stance to make the country free from the current impasse.

The heavyweights of the two parties agreed to hold discussions on the constitutional issue and local polls in the days to come too.

The meeting was attended by NC president Sher Bahadur Deuba, NC vice-president Ram Chandra Paudel , UML chairman KP Oli  and UML general secretary Ishwor Pokhrel.

The meeting comes at a time when CPN-UML has been refusing to soften its stance on the constitution amendment bill.

The government on Friday held an all-party meeting with the parties having representation in the legislature-parliament in a bid to persuade them to endorse the 11-point amendment bill recently tabled in parliament.

Madhes-centric parties have been adamantly reiterating that they will not participate in the local polls unless the amendment bill is endorsed with revision.
