BANKE, Oct 25: Senior leader of Nepali Congress (NC) Ramchandra Poudel has said he would vie for the post of party president during the upcoming 14th General Convention.

During a press meet organized by the Nepal Press Union, Banke on Monday, the leader said although there are other aspirants as well for the presidential posts from the rival faction only one candidate would be chosen from the faction.

“Democracy is also about collective leadership and we will demonstrate it during the nomination,” he said, adding that a delay in organizing the 14th General Convention may push the party to a legal crisis and that such a situation must be prevented.

Poudel also accused the erstwhile CPN-UML-led government of trying to take the country toward totalitarianism. He advised the current NC-led government not to follow the ‘missteps’ of the previous government.

Responding to the media query on whether the party would forge an alliance in the upcoming election, he said the party will take decision to this effect during the election. “Party cadres do not wish to forge alliances as such during the election. But let’s wait and see. This will be determined by the political situation during the election,” he added.
