Stating that her efforts to field one candidate from the Koirala family was not successful, she has decided to compete in the race for the party’s president herself. She said that will not stay behind when everyone is announcing their candidacy for the post.
Announcing her candidacy, Koirala said that there is a need for a leadership that will continue the ideologies of BP Koirala just as her father Girija Prasad Koirala did. She also claimed that everyone will support her decision as she is the first female candidate for the post. “I hope to receive the support of everyone as this is the first time a female candidate is filing candidacy for the post of party’s president,” she said.
While referring to the political instability and uncertainty in the country now, Koirala said that there is no other alternative but to head for early elections. She also said that the allegations raised on the credibility of the judiciary was not a good sign. “Democracy will be weakened if the issues surrounding the independence of the judiciary are not resolved,” she added.
