SURKHET, Nov 2: Nepali Congress(NC) leader Jiban Bahadur Shahi has been appointed as Chief Minister of Karnali Province.
Shahi was appointed as Chief Minister with the support of lawmakers belonging to the CPN (Maoist Center) and CPN (Unified Socialist). Earlier on Monday, incumbent Chief Minister Mahendra Bahadur Shahi, who belongs to the CPN (Maoist Center), had resigned from his post.

There are a total 35 Provincial Assembly members in Karnali Province. Shahi was appointed as Chief Minister with the support of 21 Provincial Assembly members.
Karnali Province Chief Gobinda Prasad Kalauni administered Shahi oath of office and secrecy as chief minister as per the Article 168 (2) of the constitution. He assumed his office as Chief Minister at 9 PM Tuesday.
