KATHMANDU, July 29: The 14th general convention of the Nepali Congress has again fallen uncertain as the active membership dispute has not been resolved.
The general convention scheduled for September 1-4 in Kathmandu has fallen uncertain as the active membership, which is considered key for holding general convention, has not been finalized. Even as the general convention is just a month away, the NC has not been able to finalize its active membership till Wednesday.

The membership distribution probe committee headed by central committee member Ramesh Lekhak submitted its report on Tuesday, finalizing the list of 800,000 active members.
However, the files of new active members of Bara and Saptari have not been opened while the dispute over active membership distribution in one constituency each of Dhanusha and Sarlahi is still pending. The membership of more than 700 wards has not been finalized yet, according to the Task Force members.
The technical aspects of the report submitted by the committee are yet to be finalized. A meeting of the party’s office bearers and former office bearers held on Wednesday has directed the committee to submit the final report by noon on Thursday.
The leaders have expressed dissatisfaction with the investigation committee saying that the files of the new members of Bara and Saptari have not been opened. Asking how the problem was found out without opening the membership forms, the leaders have instructed the committee to look into the disputes seen in two districts. "Some technical aspects are yet to be settled in the report submitted by the investigation committee," said committee member Shyam Kumar Ghimire. “We will submit the report after settling them.”
Similarly, there is a dispute over the active membership of those who joined the NC from different parties during the process of party unification. The rival faction within the party has been saying that the memberships distributed unilaterally by the establishment faction cannot be accepted. Meanwhile, the NC has formed another committee to resolve the membership disputes in Bara, Saptari, Sarlahi and Dhanusha.
