KATHMANDU, Mar 22: Following the humiliating defeat in federal, provincial and local level elections three months ago, Nepali Congress met to understand reasons in the party’s central working committee meeting at Sanepa.
The very meeting is likely to propose date of the Mahasamiti meeting.
NC central member Nayaran Prakash Saud said that the meeting would review its performance in elections, take action against those involved in intra-party betrayal, fix date for Mahasamiti meeting, form party’s strategy as an opposition and manage party structures at local level.
NA members draw lots to decide term lengths
The party had already instructed its district and grass-root committees to submit their respective reports regarding the party’s performance in the elections.
The Central Office has received reports from almost all districts and electoral constituencies. After a thorough study of those reports, the party committee will present a comprehensive report at the CWC meeting on the poll debacle from today.
Party senior leader Ramchandra Poudel faction leaders are demanding special general meeting and change of party leadership, while others have said publicly that those above 70 years should not hold executive posts in the party, but play the role of guardians.
Younger leaders have attributed election defeat to the leadership’s failure to abide by the party’s statute in running the party.
NC leader Ramchandra Paudel faction leaders will urge PM Deuba to start reforming the party by reconstituting its parliamentary board and central work execution committee which were ‘formed in violation of the party’s statute’.
