KATHMANDU, Jan 11: The main opposition party Nepali Congress (NC) on Saturday drew the attention of the government over 'heightening anarchy' in multiple sectors in the country.
The NC, in a press release, urged the government to curb thriving corruption and irregularities at various levels. "Although Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli expressed commitment to maintain zero-tolerance against corruption at times, it is evident that most of the irregularities have taken place under his administration," the NC spokesperson Bishwo Prakash Sharma stated in the press release.

According to NC, the recent decision of the cabinet regarding telecom companies has revealed that lawlessness has been prevailing in the country. NC urged the government not to discriminate any private companies while formulating and implementing policies.
"It was Congress that introduced privatization in the country. However, we firmly believe that fair treatment to all the competing companies is a must to witness a significant growth of the national economy."
NC claimed that the recent decision of the government on issuing license to some companies is contradictory to the decision of Nepal Telecommunication Authority (NTA), Supreme Court's ruling over NTA's decision, and directives of the Parliament's Finance Committee. "The decision, however, proves that the government is not willing to recover outstanding taxes and fees from various companies," NC argued.
"Since internet tariff in Nepal is the most expensive in South Asia, it is the call for the time that the private sector should be encouraged for their active involvement and investment. The recent decision of the government is condemnable," the statement further read.
Congress urged the government not to make any compromise in various issues including issuing license to private companies and collecting revenue from them.
