NC to prioritize lower-rung recommendations to select candidates

SINDHULI, April 7:  Nepali Congress (NC) is to give priority to the recommendations by the party's local level organizations while choosing its candidates for the upcoming local elections.

SINDHULI, April 7:  Nepali Congress (NC) is to give priority to the recommendations by the party's local level organizations while choosing its candidates for the upcoming local elections.


A meeting of the party's district working committee on Friday decided to this effect. Dipak Kumar Ghimire, district secretary of the party, said they have set the recommendations by the village working committees and ward committees of the party as major criteria for selecting the candidates.

He said the local committees have been instructed to recommend the candidates for local units by April 11 and the committees coordinating with the municipality and rural municipalities will further recommend them to the regional committee by April 15. Finally, the regional committee will recommend the qualified candidates by excluding the controversial ones by April 17. 


As the party has announced to give priority to the locally recommended candidates, many political leaders, who are seen as the prospective candidates for the mayoral post in Kamalamai Municipality, have increased their visits to the villages. They have started wooing the voters by making door-to- door visits. According to district secretary of NC Khanal, party has urged all its local committee to unanimously recommend their candidates to make them win. 


Meanwhile, NC has deployed 1,111members in the promotional events of the party with the objective of grabbing as many seats in the elections.
