KATHMANDU, Feb 5: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli–led faction of Nepal Communist Party (NCP) is holding a mass gathering in Kathmandu to show its strength today.
The party is scheduled to hold a mass gathering in front of Narayanhiti Royal Palace Museum this afternoon. Narayanhiti Palace area is expected to witness a huge gathering of cadres of the Oli-led faction who have travelled to Kathmandu from various parts of the country.
Road dividers put in place in the roads in front of the museum have been removed in view of the mass gathering. Market and shops will remain closed during this period in the area.

The event will be addressed by the party leader and Prime Minister KP Sharam Oli, Deputy Prime Minister Ishwor Pokharel, Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa and other senior leaders of the party are scheduled to address the gathering. Leaders and cadres supporting the Oli-led faction of NCP are scheduled to walk past various parts of the city before converging into a huge gathering.
Earlier on Thursday, the Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Madhav Kumar Nepal led faction of NCP staged a general strike opposing the government’s move to administer oath of office and secrecy to members appointed in the constitutional bodies.
Following the dissolution of the House of Representatives (HoR) on December 20, 2020, two factions within the NCP have been staging protests, demonstrations and gatherings across the country.
The Dahal-Nepal faction is staging its third phase of agitation against the HoR dissolution, while the Oli-led faction is organizing mass rallies defending the government’s move.
