KATHMANDU, Dec 16: The Standing Committee meeting of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) has concluded with an agreement to hold the Standing Committee meeting again on December 20 and the Central Committee meeting on December 25.

According to NCP Spokesperson Narayan Kaji Shrestha, the Standing Committee meeting on Wednesday made the decision to withdraw the ordinance issued by the government on Constitutional Council meeting and make nominations in various constitutional bodies in consensus within the party. During the meeting, Prime Minister K P Oli, who is also the chairman of the party, had clarified that the CC meeting on Tuesday did not make any decision on the appointments in constitutional bodies.

The CC meeting on Tuesday was attended by only three of the six members as the House Speaker Agni Sapkota and the main opposition party, Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba boycotted the meeting. Amid deepening political rift between the two factions, Prime Minister Oli had introduced an ordinance to pave way for holding the CC meeting even if three of the six Constitutional Council members were present in the meeting.

Shrestha said the rival faction has agreed to withdraw their demand to summon a house session at the earliest. Earlier, as many as 80 lawmakers close to the rival faction had demanded President Bidya Bhandari to summon the House session at the earliest.

Prime Minister Oli had also attended the Standing Committee after there was an agreement not to hold discussions on the political paper presented by Executive Chairman Dahal. Oli and Dahal have agreed to present a joint political paper in the next Standing Committee meeting scheduled for December 20.
