NEW DELHI, April 27: Nearly 2,000 Indians have landed in India or are in the process of evacuation after being safely removed from conflict zones in strife-torn Sudan amid serious logistical challenges, India's Foreign Secretary Vinay Mohan Kwatra said here on Thursday.
Briefing media persons on "Operation Kaveri," which is being carried out to evacuate Indians from Sudan, Kwatra said there were still approximately 3,500 Indians and 1,000 persons of Indian origin stranded in Sudan.

"Availability of buses and diesel is a real logistical challenge on the ground there," Kwatra said, adding that the Indian government was in constant touch with all the stakeholders in Sudan and other countries as far as the evacuation of Indians was concerned.
Sudan has been witnessing deadly armed clashes between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Khartoum and other areas since April 15. Both sides have accused each other of initiating the conflict
