Nepal beats Bhutan 5-0, road to final almost clear

KATHMANDU, Aug 29: Nepal U-15 football team has defeated Bhutan 5-0 in its fourth and final match of the group stage in ongoing South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) U-15 Championship being held in Kolkata on Thursday.

KATHMANDU, Aug 29: Nepal U-15 football team has defeated Bhutan 5-0 in its fourth and final match of the group stage in ongoing South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) U-15 Championship being held in Kolkata on Thursday.


Pradeep Lamsal opened the scoring spree in the 5th minute, adding third for the team and his second individual goal in the 48th minute. Nirajan Khatri, Ashim Rai and Krish Sapkota netted the ball to Bhutan’s post in the 9th, 75th and 85th minutes respectively making it a purely one-sided contest.

Following the victory, Nepal is placed in the second position with nine points from four matches. India, however, is leading in the scoreboard which is taking on defending champions Bangladesh later this afternoon in the last match of the group stage in the tournament.


The table-toppers in the group stage will advance to the finals. 


The finalists will be decided later this afternoon after the match between India and Bangladesh. If India wins Bangladesh, Nepal will make it to the finals. In case, India is beaten, the number of goals and cards conceded will be taken into consideration for the decision.
