Nepal improves marginally on Global Hunger Index, stands at 81st rank out of 122 countries

KATHMANDU, OCT 17: Nepal has improved in its hunger situation, with its related index moderated by 2.1 points in the past eight years.

KATHMANDU, OCT 17: Nepal has improved in its hunger situation, with its related index moderated by 2.1 points in the past eight years.


In the Global Hunger Index (GHI) 2022, Nepal has improved its position to 19.1 points, upgraded from 21.2 points in 2014. Nepal stands at 81st position out of 122 countries assessed.

The index shows that Nepal lies in a moderate level of hunger. The index above 20 points reveals a serious hunger situation while the countries with index below 9.9 shows low level of hunger.


Meanwhile, India’s position in hunger depleted as the country falls to 107th position.  In South Asian countries, Sri Lanka stands at 64th rank, Bangladesh at 84th, Pakistan at 99th and Afghanistan is at 109th rank in hunger outspread in the country.
