KANCHANPUR, June 13: Nepal-India border points in Kanchanpur district are to remain closed for 48 hours during the upcoming local-level elections scheduled for June 28. 



A meeting of the Nepal-India Coordination Committee held in Mahendranagar Monday agreed to seal the border points from 6:00 am of June 26 to 5 pm on the election day or June 28, Kanchanpur's Chief District Officer Manohar Prasad Khanal said. 



Movement in areas sharing border with three districts of India (Pilibhit, Udham Singh Nagar and Champawat) will remain halted in view of the election. 



Both sides have agreed to beef up security along the border areas for the election purpose. The launching of a joint patrols and establishment of mobile and check points are the additional arrangements to be made for the electoral purpose, CDO Khanal added. 



Likewise, both sides agreed to exchange security-related information for checking trans-border crimes including the smuggling of small arms, drugs and human trafficking, smuggling of wildlife body parts. In addition to this, measures will be taken to end the mistreatment to Nepali workers being reported on border areas. 



The Indian side agreed to allow the free movement of private vehicles bearing the Nepali number plate in the bordering Khatima market and up to Tikapur. RSS
