Nepal, Oman sign MoUs on labor, tourism, visa waiver for diplomatic, official passport holders

KATHMANDU, Dec 17: Nepal and Oman have signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) on labor, tourism cooperation and visa waiver for the holders of diplomatic and official passports. The two countries signed the MoUs during the visit of Foreign Secretary Shanker Bairagi to Oman.


During a meeting with the Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Oman Badr bin Hamad bin Hamood Albusaidi in the Omani capital Muscat on Monday, Foreign Secretary Bairagi said that the signing of the MoUs on these areas would further enhance the ties between the two countries. While stating that Nepal has very good legal and regulatory architecture for foreign investment, Foreign Secretary Bairagi shared Nepal’s willingness to forge strong economic partnership with Oman for the development of infrastructures, energy and other sectors in Nepal.

According to a press statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), the two sides underlined the importance of high-level visits for strengthening bilateral relations. Bairagi also hoped that the two countries would soon convene a meeting of bilateral consultation mechanism. 


Establishment of a permanent diplomatic presence in Nepal by Oman would further contribute to our friendly relations, said the foreign secretary. 


Receiving, Bairagi in his office, Secretary General of the Omanese Foreign Ministry Albusaidi recalled the visit to Oman by the prime minister of Nepal in 2017. He responded positively on the proposal to enhance bilateral economic partnership and promote investment from Oman in Nepal, said the MoFA statement.


While Bairgai was accompanied by Nepali ambassador to Oman Sarmila Parajuli Dhakal, Albusaidi was accompanied by Undersecretary of Diplomatic Affairs Khalifa bin Ali bin Issa Alharthy  and Head of West Asia Department of the MoFA of Oman Sheikh Hilal bin Marhoon Al-Maamari during the meeting.
