The FDI commitment increased by a nominal Rs 1.98 billion in review period
KATHMANDU, April 14: Foreign investors have pledged to inject a total capital of Rs 30.09 billion in the first nine months of the current fiscal year.
The records with the Department of Industry (DoI) show that the investment commitment increased by a nominal amount during mid-July 2023 and mid-March 2024 compared to the same period last year. In the nine months of last fiscal year, Nepal received foreign direct investment (FDI) worth Rs 28.11 billion.

According to the DoI, it approved investment of a total of 269 foreign firms as of the third quarter end. Last month alone, the department gave permission to 16 foreign firms to operate in Nepal.
In the new development, the FDI pledged by the foreign investors stands at Rs 480 billion involving 6,128 foreign firms.
Out of the FDI approved in the review period this year, 253 fall under the category of small industries. Likewise, 13 are medium industries and three are large industries.
Out of the total FDI commitments, 122 firms look for investing in tourism businesses, the largest of all. This accounts for 45 percent of the total number.
Similarly, 93 firms have pledged to invest in service-related businesses, followed by nine in information technology, six in infrastructure, five in agriculture and two for mines.
