KATHMANDU, Feb 7: Nepal outclassed India in the ongoing SAFF U-20 Women's Championship football in Bangladesh on Tuesday to remain in contention for the title.
Nepal defeated Indian 3-1 in the third match of the league round held at Bir Shrestha Shahid Sipahi Mostafa Kamal Stadium in Dhaka to lead the table with six points.
Nepal on Tuesday fought back from one goal down in the first half to defeat India 3-1 in the SAFF Women’s U-20 Championship which is currently underway in Bangladesh.
Nepal thrashes India in SAFF U-17 Championship
Anjali Chand, Priti Rai and Amisha Karki scored one goal each for Nepal.
Aapurna Narjari had given an early lead to India in the 20th minute.
However, Anjali Chand cut the deficit to level the game 1-1 in the 48th minute.
Captain Priti Rai scored a penalty to give Nepal a 2-1 lead in the 69th minute. IN the dying minutes of the game, Amisha Karki added another goal for Nepal in the 89th minute to ensure a 3-1 victory for Nepal.
Before the start of the match, Nepal was in the third place with three points from three games. With this victory, Nepal has climbed to the top position and has reached the final. Nepal lost to Bangladesh in the first match while it registered a 4-0 win over Bhutan in the second match.
Bangladesh is second with 4 points followed by India in third while Bhutan is already eliminated.
If India is to reach the final, it has to rely on the result of Bhutan-Bangladesh match in which Bhutan will have to defeat Bangladesh.
Bhutan and Bangladesh will be playing the final match of the round robin league later today at 7PM. Along with Nepal, hosts Bangladesh, India and Bhutan are participating in the tournament. The top two teams in the round-robin league will compete for the title.
